Berkshire Design, Inc. began in 1983 under the talented hand of architect and Lenox resident Frank Macioge.
Frank worked for many years in the Berkshires, while also extending his touch to projects outside of the Berkshires, as the principal retail designer for Ralph Lauren.
In 2001, Frank began transitioning his practice to Robert E Harrison. Robert brought with him his experiences as the founding principal of Blueline Design and Harrison Design Associates to Berkshire Design, Inc. and a partnership was born.
In January, 2018, after working with Robert for over a decade, as well as with two other area firms, Kerry Bartini officially joined as a principal at Berkshire Design, Inc.

about berkshire Design Inc.
We are a full service architecture firm with a focus on residential and small scale commercial work. After we meet with you on site and discuss your ideas and scope of work, we will provide you with a proposal for the architectural services that we feel you will need to proceed with your project. Standard services can encompass, but are not limited to, these phases of design:
Existing Conditions - We will document your existing structure(s) in plan and exterior elevation to the extent necessary to accurately design your proposed new work, review permitting process and local zoning by-laws, and review with you your program requirements and your budget. We will also need existing site conditions information, which may require your hiring of a surveyor.
Schematic Design - This is the phase where we explore many solutions for your project’s program in order to define a design concept and direction. We like to say that this is where you get to have the most fun and we as designers get to have the most fun. It is an iterative process that results in floor plans and exterior elevations, a construction budget, and a schedule.
Design Development - Not quite construction documents, but a lot more detail than schematic design, this phase introduces clients to sections, details, interior elevations, framing, plumbing and electrical plans. This phase gives stakeholders a chance to further adjust the design of the project before construction documents.
Construction Documents - The result of this phase is a set of drawings that can be used to both solicit a price from a builder and to secure a building permit.
Bidding & Negotiating - If you do not already have a builder on board, we can connect you with one; or we can assemble a bid package to be distributed to a limited number of general contractors by invitation with an established deadline for response.
Contract Administration - Once your project starts constructions, we will periodically visit your site to assure quality and accuracy of interpretation of construction documents. You may also engage us to review, guide and aid you in request for payment disbursements, change orders, changes in work, and retainage disbursements.
